The Leagues of Votann

The Leagues of Votann
The Leagues of Votann, who call themselves Kin, are a pragmatic, doughty, tough and resilient, and technologically advanced race of warrior-clones. When first encountered by the Imperium of Mankind  they quickly attracted the perjorative of ‘squats’, being overly reflective of their stature.
The Leagues of Votann are not new to Warhammer 40,000, having had a range Citadel Miniatures, as Squats, in Warhammer 40,000’s first edition, but having been absence since then they’ve been absent from customer’s collections for almost 30 years. As such, with a full range launch  of 15 different SKUs, there is no better time than right now for all of your customers, young and old, to get into this returning and brand new faction for Warhammer 40,000. Your established and veteran customers may even have had collections of their own when they were younger and remember them fondly, so talking to your customers about what attracts them to the Leagues of Votann, and their nostalgia over the faction, may provide positive upselling opportunities. New and younger customers may not recall the original miniatures, however there’s still positive and engaging conversations to be had about Warhammer 40,000’s newest exciting faction.
Any customer’s wanting to explore the Leagues of Votann can do no better than by starting off with their army book. Codex: Leagues of Votann is a 104-page hardback book that is an essential purchase for all interested customers, providing them with a detailed history and background to the faction, a fabulous and inpsirational showcase, as well as all the army rules and stats needed to use the Leagues of Votann miniatures in games of Warhammer 40,000. Further essential upsell products, for customers who are gaming-focused, including the Datacards: Leagues of Votann and Leagues of Votann Dice Set. The Datacards provides 50 rules and abilities reminder cards for easy access during games, while the dice set provides customers with 16 Leagues of Votann-themed dice.
What follows is a helpful summary of each of the wide range of miniature products available for the Leagues of Votann army upon their launch.
These should help provide you with a number of discussion points, when engaging with your customers who are excited about the launch in your store, whether they be new customers needing guidance and advice or more experienced generals looking forward to claiming their next victory.
Every army needs its leaders and generals and the Leagues of Votann are no different. The range launches with 4 HQ units with which your customers can lead their armies.
These are: Uthar The Destined, the Einhyr Champion, a Grimnyr and the Brokhyr Iron-Master.

Uthar the Destined is a named character and the overall leader of one of the Leagues’ primary sub-factions. Better yet, this kit is a ‘two-fer’, and is able to be assembled as an alternative Kahl miniature. Kahls are the primary leaders of the Leagues of Votann’s military forces and act as captains and generals on the tabletop. Rules within the Codex allows one Kahl to be upgraded to a High Kahl, and so this product can easily be considered a multiple purchase product for any of your customers wanting to go deep on the Leagues of Votann. This miniature kit was previously available in the Leagues of Votann Army Launch Set.
The Einhyr Champion is a military and martial champion and the Leagues of Votann and they steadfastly charge across the battlefield into enemy battlelines and unleash carnage and destruction upon their foe. This kit has a choice of weapon options making them perfect for taking out massed ranks of infantry or even the most heavily defended targets, tanks and heavy armour.
The Grimnyr are the closest thing to spirital leaders that the Kin, who make up the Leagues’ populous, get. These ‘living ancestors’ are in direct communication with the Votann themselves, many an army has be raised at the behest of a Grimnyr. In game, the Grimnyr offer a Leagues of Votann army psychic support, and are the only product in this launch to have access to Psychic Powers, making them a must have inclusion in a comprehensive miniature collection. The kit provides variable head options, enabling this wizardly-wise leader to be built as either a female or male Kin.
Lastly, the Brokhyr Iron-Master provides technological support and battlefield repairs for the Leagues’ vehicles and the armoured Exo-frames of the Brokhyr Thunderkyn, and so is a great additional pick-up for any one picking up any of Thunderkyn, Sagitaurs, or particularly the Hekaton Land Fortress – which is the army’s main battle tank.
Although Warhammer 40,000 can be played in a variety of formats, the mainstay and rank and file of every Leagues of Votann army is comprised of Hearthkyn Warriors.
Hearthkyn Warriors are the only Troops choice for the Leagues of Votann, making them all-but an absolutely essential inclusion in all armies. Offered as a boxed of 10 miniatures, the kit provides these doughty warriors with a choice of two primary weapons and a vast array of additional special and heavy weapons. Being the only Troops choice in army, and capable of being fielded in squads of up to 20 miniatures, every customer who walks through your store’s door should be picking up this product multiple times. 20 Hearthkyn Warriors were previously available in the Leagues of Votann Army Launch Set.

The Leagues of Votann’s most elite warriors come in two very different forms, both incredibly hard hitting.

The Einhyr Hearthguard are the Leagues’ warrior-champions, bodyguards and primary vanguard units. Comparable to the Terminators of the Space Marines, this product provides customers with 5 redoubtable Exo-armoured and heavily equipped Hearthguard warriors. Equally capable at range as they are in melee, the kit provides each miniature with a choice of two ranged and two melee weapons, as well as including additional options for a unit leader. Capable of being fielded in units of up to 10, any budding Leagues of Votann general would be remiss to take to the field of battle without at least field one unit of the Einhyr Hearthguard.

Alternatively, if your customer is more inclined with shock and awe tactics, they could be well served by looking instead to the Cthonian Beserks.

These berserk, cyber-enhanced warriors are amongst the most heavily augmented warriors in the Leagues of Votann ranks, and are their primarily combat-oriented unit, that charges across the battlefield headlong toward the enemy’s most fortified positions.

This kit provides customers with a 5-model unit of Cthonian Beserks, all of which have a choice of two different types of weaponry allowing them crack open heavily armoured targets with ease, or scythe through lighter targets with abandon. The kit also contains two additional specialist weapons, allowing more nuanced play from more experienced generals. Capable of being fielded in squads of up to 10 miniatures, the Cthonian Beserks will appeal to your customers who prefer a very direct approach to dealing with their enemies.

The Leagues of Votann are a diverse military force and also employ both evasive and direct strike tactics, scouting enemy positions and executing direct strikes when the need arises, and they do this with both their Hernkyn Pioneers and Sagitaurs.

Hernkyn Pionneers are a long range scouting hover-bikes ridden by the Leagues’ hardier, resilient and resourceful Kin. They ride ahead of the main battleforce ferrying valuable information about enemy movements back and forth to their generals.

Each equipped with the long-ranged Magna-coil Autocannon, the Hernkyn Pioneers hit suprisingly heavily for a fast scouting unit. Capable of being fielded in up to squads of 6 models, the kit provides 3 miniatures making the Hernkyn a multiple purchase product. The kit provides 2 heavy weapon upgrades options for one miniature and alternate equipment builds for each miniature in the kit in addition, allowing the unit to gain a number of in-game benefits. This Hernkyn Pioneers miniature kit was previously available in the Leagues of Votann Army Launch Set.

The Sagitaur, on the other hand, is a rugged all terrain vehicle, gun platform and transport vehicle designed to survive the worst the battlefields of the 41st Millennium can throw at it, while punching well above its weight due to being relatively heavily armed for its size.

Capable of being fielded in units of up to 2, this product contains a single Sagitaur which can transport up to 5 miniatures in-game, and provides a choice of 4 different weapon options for the vehicle to be equipped with. Innovative rules design means the Sagitaur provides your customers with some unique tactical gameplay opportunities, which are best taken advantage of when this product is fielded in pairs, meaning, should any of your customers be in the process of purchasing one Sagitaur, there’s an opportunity here to find out why they’re picking up their first and whether or not they might want to consider a second as well.

The Heavy Support slots for the Leagues of Votann’s launch is populated by two very different units and products.

The Brokhyr Thunderkyn stride across the battlefield in heavy exo-frames, which in times of peace are used to help maintain the Leagues’ spacecraft. This helps them be able to carry massive heavy weaponry into battle with ease. The kit provides 3 miniatures, all of which can be equipped with a choice of three different heavy weapons, capable of eliminating a range of enemy targets with ease. Able to be fielded in battle of up to units of 6, the Brokhyr Thunderkyn can be considered a multi-purchase product.

The Hekaton Land Fortress is an absolute behemoth of a battle tank on the battlefield. Large enough to convey a large unit of warriors into the thick of battle, armoured enough to withstand even the most withering of enemy firepower, and heavily armed enough to ensure the any prioritiy targets in the enemy army are dealt with swiftly, long before become a major problem in the thick of battle. The product offers a huge array of weapon options allowing the Land Fortress to armed in numerous configurations making it more than capable of dealing with almost any threat the enemy can present. A centrepiece kit upon the launch of the Leagues of Votann range, the Hekaton Land Fortress is bound to attract a lot of interest from your customers.

Alternatively, newer customers may be instead interested in picking up the Combat Patrol: Leagues of Votann boxed set. This value added boxed set contains 19 miniatures and combines 4 of the products noted above (Uthar the DestinedCthonian BeserksHernkyn Pioneers and Hearthkyn Warriors) into one great value-added (approximately 43%) boxed set, providing your customers with a solid foundation onto which they can build the rest of their army, while saving money to purchase then next units from you.
