There’s More to Games Workshop Than Just Games | UK

One of biggest advantages for retailers considering Warhammer, is that there is something for everyone in our expansive range.

One of Games Workshop’s biggest strengths is that there is something for everyone in our expansive range.

We’re best known for our tabletop wargames and miniatures, yet we also make paints and modelling tools, publish books, audiobooks and comics, and produce a range of supporting products that might be perfect for your store. Here’s a handy breakdown of what we do…

The worlds of Warhammer

Warhammer settings are rich and diverse, with everything from fantastical realms to a dystopian sci-fi future. Most products are set in one of our two core universes:

1. Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is set in the Mortal Realms, an epic fantasy universe full of gods, mighty heroes and magic.

2. Warhammer 40,000 is hard-edged science fiction, set in a dark future where humanity is beset on all sides by alien foes. Launched in 1987, it has grown to become the most popular tabletop miniatures game in the world.

In both of these settings, players can collect, build, paint and play with different factions of miniatures. Both are hugely flexible, allowing for quick lunchtime skirmishes or epic battles that last entire weekends! Some fans simply collect and build our best-selling sets, while for others the joy of Warhammer revolves around painting models and bringing them to life.

Picking up a boxed set containing rules and miniatures is the first step into a much larger hobby. It’s entirely up to the individual how they proceed after that. The possibilities for fun and creativity with Warhammer are endless.

Our popular Boxed Games

As well as our two core games, we also sell a range of smaller Boxed Games. These are ideal for new players who fancy something different, as they’re usually played with just a handful of miniatures. Our current catalogue includes:

Warhammer Underworlds: This highly-competitive game adds a card collecting element to the Warhammer hobby, with players trying to build the best deck to give their miniature warband the best chance of beating their opponents.

Warcry: This is a small-scale skirmish title. This time, the game is set in the Age of Sigmar universe. Launched in 2019, it’s quickly become one of our most popular games.

Blood Bowl: One of our longest running titles, this is a bone-crunching game of fantasy American football, with added weapons, magic spells and dodgy refs!

In addition, we publish more specialist titles, Adeptus Titanicus, Necromunda and Aeronautica Imperialis, which are aimed at seasoned gamers and collectors

Citadel Colour paints and brushes

But as we said, there’s more to Games Workshop than just games. Many people love painting and collecting Warhammer without ever playing it. In fact, building and painting is perhaps the largest part of the Warhammer hobby and we make everything that people need to get great results from their miniatures.

GW Article6 In line

Games Workshop sells a wide range of paints, brushes and other tools, as well as a large selection of books.

Our Citadel Colour range offers more than 250 acrylic paints, all specially formulated to give amazing results when applied to miniatures. These are available in several different styles, from Base paints, used to block in the colours on a model and ink Shades which provide depth, to Layer and Edge paints, which are used to build up the details. We also have metallics and Technical paints, which create exciting effects.

Additionally, our new range of Contrast paints provides amazingly quick results, working as a base, wash, layer and highlight all in one coat! All our paints are safe to use too, so kids and adults can get in on the fun.

We support our Citadel Colour range with a variety of different sizes and shapes of brush. These are ideal for painting everything from dragons and tanks to dotting in the eyes on a detailed Chaos Space Marine. We also make a range of modelling tools that make building and converting models quick and easy.

Beyond the hobby with Black Library

Whether it’s set in the Mortal Realms or the 41st millennium, Warhammer is about telling fantastic stories. Our games take place in vividly realised, minutely detailed worlds full of adventure, myth and magic. We fill our rulebooks and the pages of our monthly magazine, White Dwarf, with lore, gorgeous artwork and scene-setting stories to fire the imaginations of our ever-growing community.

This is also where Black Library comes in, our successful publishing imprint that produces Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000 novels. These books are thrill-packed adventure stories aimed at everyone from die-hard Warhammer fans to people who have never painted a single model. We even have a range for younger readers called Warhammer Adventures.

Although obviously targeted at our fans, Black Library books are just great stories. You can pick one up with no prior knowledge of Warhammer and enjoy a rip-roaring, action-packed adventure – which probably explains why several of them have become New York Times bestsellers.
